About This Program
The Sleeping Beauty
Program Type
Assembly
The ballet Sleeping Beauty, first staged by Marius Petipa to the score of Pytor Tchaikovsky in 1890, is a celebrated ballet that brings the well-known fairy tale to life. In this retelling of the classic story, Ballet Theatre of Maryland brings Sleeping Beauty right to your school! This story will take the audience on a journey of love, triumph, and the duality between good and evil. From Carabosse’s evil spell on Aurora to Prince Desire awakening the princess after 100 years, company dancers present excerpts of the ballet while demonstrating the art of storytelling through movement.
Students will experience a fully costumed, professional performance along with the chance to learn some of their own ballet steps and pantomime followed by a Q&A with the dancers.
