Blendies: Symmetry, Balance, and Optical Color Mixing

Workshop

A one-time, in-classroom workshop (45 to 60 minutes) for early childhood and lower elementary learners (PK to 3rd grade) where each learner builds their own reconfigurable spinning top from wooden peanuts, wings, stoppers, and a square dowel. Learners practice the two spinning techniques, compare a symmetrical and an asymmetrical build, then color two peanuts with primary colors and watch their brain optically blend them into a secondary color while the Blendie spins. Each learner takes their finished Blendie home.

Technical Requirements

Materials are provided in individually packed sets of 10 or bulk-packed sets of 25 [determined at booking]. Confirm class size at booking so the correct number of kits is ordered.
TA will provide additional materials if an in-person workshop.
Each Blendie kit goes home with the learner.
Preferred classroom setup: tables grouped (4 to 6 learners per table), with a smooth spinning surface (table or clear floor area). The TA brings pre-built examples, the slide deck, and primary-colored markers shared across the group.
This Spark is appropriate for PK to 3rd grade (early childhood and lower elementary) but can be extended to upper elementary as needed.
