Program Type
Professional Development
Description
In this hands-on professional development workshop, PK-12 teachers learn how to use parody songwriting to help students demonstrate their curriculum knowledge and experience the joy of writing parodies.
Artist and songwriter Alden helps teachers understand the specific techniques of writing parody songs, including counting syllables, analyzing the rhyme scheme, and organizing ideas in a verse/chorus structure. Teachers will write their own parodies during the workshop to give them a greater understanding of how they can use this exciting tool in their own classrooms. For PK-2 teachers, the focus is on how to create their own parodies for classroom management and for teaching the curriculum. For 3-12th grade teachers, the focus is on how to lead student parody songwriting projects.
