To apply, students must be enrolled in a Baltimore City public high school and:

• Successfully complete their junior year 2023-24
• Be 16 years of age or above as of 6/15/24
• Have a passion for or interest in the arts
• Commit to attend the 40-hour Orientation June 24-June 28
• Commit to working full-time (37 hours/week) for 6.5 weeks from July 1 through August 14 (*Interns are OFF on Thursday, July 4th)
• Be excited and willing to bring their true, authentic, creative selves to our BAI community
• Be able to work legally in the United States

Step #1
The first step is to complete and submit an application.

Please be sure to fully complete all sections of the application and include all required supporting materials, including giving us the name and contact information for 1-2 letters of recommendation. You do not have to complete the application in one sitting; you can save it and return to it.

NOTE: The application is meant to give you a true sense of the program while you share a true sense of yourself! It is long, and alumni-approved!

Step #2
If you are selected to move to the next step of the process, you will be invited by Arts for Learning to participate in a virtual interview after school on April 2, 3, 8, OR 9 from 4:30-6:30pm. (Please keep these dates/times open!) You will be notified by April 16 if you are invited for an interview. At that time, you will receive information about how to prepare for the interview, as well as the appointment date, time, and Zoom link.

Based on the strength of applications and interviews, up to 40 students will be selected to be our BAI 2024 cohort! Yay!

We currently anticipate that BAI 2024 will be an IN-PERSON program, though interns may complete parts of their internships virtually as decided by them and their site supervisors.

Interns will work on meaningful projects at their placements, start their Common Application, write their college essay, create a digital portfolio of all of their work, explore the arts scene in Baltimore and Philly, and present their summers to family, friends, supervisors, and community at our culminating event. What does this really look like?

• After five days of Orientation to prepare, students start their internships;
• On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, students are completing their internships. Each worksite supervisor will work with their intern to determine if participation will be in person, virtual, or a combination of the two. Curious about what kind of work you might be doing? • On Thursdays and Fridays, students participate in professional development and trips/arts experiences on Fridays, INCLUDING a full-day trip to visit the local arts scene in Philadelphia!

PLEASE NOTE: Orientation week is Monday-Friday, June 24-28. Interns report to work on Monday, July 1 and Tuesday, July 2. They come to their first day of Professional Development on Wednesday, July 3 and are OFF on Thursday, July 4. They finish the week in Professional Development on Friday, July 5. The rest of the program runs from July 8 through August 14.

Interns will receive an hourly wage of $18.00 for up to 289 hours (up to $5202.00 pre-tax) which includes asynchronous pre-training before the program, orientation week, and the six-and-a-half week internship.

We are currently working with our Youth Advisory Council and our BAI Ambassadors (both made up of BAI alumni) to plan the program based on feedback from last summer and new ideas.
