About the Artist

TAHIRA is an award-winning storyteller, poet, vocalist, and musician who uses the power of story to build literacy skills, cultural awareness, and community. A graduate of Temple University’s School of Communication and Theatre, she has been a full-time teaching artist since 1996, performing across the U.S. and internationally. Her high-energy programs—rooted in the African oral tradition—blend song, poetry, and story to engage students of all ages. TAHIRA has worked in schools, libraries, festivals, and trauma-informed settings, creating experiences that inspire courage, empathy, and self-expression. School administrators and PTA leaders trust TAHIRA to deliver dynamic, meaningful, and standards-aligned programming. She is a 2023 Delaware Division of the Arts Master Fellow and a 2021 recipient of the New Jersey Governor’s Award for Distinguished Service in Arts Education.
