Tap Live! How to Bring Tap Dance in the Classroom

Description

The Tap Live! How to Bring Tap Dance in the Classroom professional development workshop shows how the art form of tap dance and its use of beat and rhythm can be integrated with reading. Tap dance has the ability to communicate and express meaning by creating beats and rhythms. When these tools are integrated into the classroom, students will be able to create physical and personal connections to what they’re reading.

Goals:

-Identify ways of using rhythm and tap dance to identify character traits

-Learn basic tap steps and elements of dance (beats and rhythm)

-Learn the elements of dance (Rhythm and Beat)

-Choose a literary text and connect it to basic tap steps

-Use an image to initiate creative writing and connect to tap dance (if there’s time)

*All workshops longer than 90 minutes include an on-site orientation meeting.
