Description
Students will learn how to define “class community” using the symbolism of a collaborative, community garden. Students will explore color theory and acrylic painting techniques to paint a flower that represents themselves as part of their class community. Next, students will complete an individual painted segment on canvas paper that will become a permanently displayed mural in the school. Each class will paint a stretched canvas or other background that will become a permanently displayed mural in the school.
Pricing
Typically, residencies range from $2,500 and up, but we can use your available budget and ‘work backwards’ to create a cost-effective residency for your school. We may be able to assist you in securing grant and funding opportunities.
Residencies are tailored to your needs but usually include:
-
- A kick-off assembly (performing arts only)
- A required orientation meeting and planning session
- A set of workshops for classes of up to 25 students each
- A student culminating or sharing event
- An evaluation meeting
Testimonials
"We really enjoyed working with Ms. Mikela! She had great classroom management and a calm demeanor that the students really responded well too. I love that she was able to incorporate what our students were studying in science as well as some social emotional components into her lessons. All of the students in my class were engaged throughout the lessons and were proud of the final product they created."

"I loved that this program was both creating an end product collaboratively with a specific idea in mind, but allowed and celebrated each class's interpretation and individuality."
