Laura Schandelmeier is a certified movement analyst (CMA) and master teaching artist and trainer for the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts. She has been with the Institute since 2001 and with the Arts for Learning Wolf Trap program since 2013. She was one of eight Wolf Trap Teaching Artists invited to participate in The Early Child STEM Learning Through the Arts project, funded by the Department of Education, which served approximately 40 teachers and 1,440 pre-K and Kindergarten children in 20 Title 1 schools in Fairfax County Public Schools. In 2010 she was one of nine Wolf Trap Teaching Artists to participate in a pilot program funded by the National Endowment for the Arts for the purpose of aligning residency strategies and content to support children’s arts learning related to newly released pre-Kindergarten arts standards. In 2009 she was commissioned to create a solo dance work for the Institute’s Small Bites program, which brings professional performances to the Early Childhood classroom, and which she continues to perform. Schandelmeier has been a trainer for new Wolf Trap teaching artists, facilitating trainings in Miami, New Jersey, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, and for the home base Institute in Virginia. In addition, she facilitates Baby Artsplay!™ and PK-2 professional development workshops for the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts and Arts for Learning. She has been a teaching artist with Joe’s Movement Emporium since 1995, and has taught at the local elementary and Montessori schools, as well as in homeschool and after-school arts programs.
